About Your Trainer!

Hey there!

Let me start off by introducing myself! My name is Kerbie and I am located in northern Illinois. I have been around and riding a variety of horses for 15+ years. Let's dive into my story...

My passion for horses began when I got my first pony at about 6 years old. I was around horses before then, but didn't have my own. When I was looking for my next step up horse, we could not find anything that fit me until we met Eddie. He really was the perfect horse and was loved by everyone who met him. He passed away Spring of 2023, and we all miss him dearly. Soon after finding him, my sister Emilie started looking for her perfect horse. We didn't have any luck so I did what any good sister does and gave Eddie to her. We went through a few horses before we found my big gray named, Smokie. My mom had been looking online for horses and came across CR Quarter Horses & Dalmations. We went to go try out a few of their horses and Smokie was the one that fit the most. Smokie and I grew together throughout the years. He is my one special heart horse and has made me the rider I am today. I have ridden a lot of horses since then, but he and I had a great connection to be able to get thus far. I can count on him to keep all of his riders safe.

I didn't get into colt starting until after I went to college in Iowa where I studied Equine Science & Management. I trained three different ages of horses including weanling, yearling, and a 2 year old. The yearling definitely made my confidence on the ground boost way up! The instructor I had helped me along the way as well. I was very thankful to have her to keep me going. After coming back from college, I continued to work with young horses. I helped a few horse friends and met some new people. One person, and a great friend of mine still to this day, introduced me to the Clinton Anderson Method. I eventually took a horse I started through a Fundamentals clinic, expanding my experience and helping me learn even more about the method. I couldn't be more thankful for it, and to my friend for introducing me to it!

After these experiences in training, I decided I wanted to buy an unstarted horse. I bought a 2 year old named, Quincy. She was a crazy little thing, but so willing! My focus was to get her started using the method, in which she has excelled. The summer after purchasing her, I wanted to start her under saddle after finishing some ground work. I was in such a rush to get her started as I had goals to be doing barrels and speed events, but that didn't happen right away. I had decided she was not one that I wanted to start myself, so I had her go to a professional trainer to get started for 60 days. Not even 2 weeks in, she had to come home from developing a fungus on her girth area. She had it for 3 months and man was it a pain! In all honesty I think it was a sign, a sign to wait to get her started. To let her grow and mature more. I then started her Winter of 2022. She was the most fun and easy going filly to start! She's been an absolute joy to work with!

Seeing the results in what I could accomplish, I then had the urge to start another youngster. I then bought a 2 year old named Spicy from Texas. I waited for her to grow and started her Winter of 2024. She was a spicy one, but also very fun! I eventually sold her to a nice family in the Upper Peninsula. They absolutely love her and I could not be happier!

Some of my future goals are to buy, train/start, and sell young horses to happy owners and go to their forever homes. I think it is so rewarding taking an untouched horse and shaping them into something special. I haven't sold many horses in the past, but the very few horses I have ended up in their forever homes still to this day. Makes my heart happy. Another goal I have is to go through the Clinton Anderson Method Ambassador Program. I have been working very hard to be successful, and I only want to work alongside the best! I cannot wait until the day I get to go.
